Common Stonechat, Schwarzkehlchen,  Cartaxo-comum, (Saxicola torquata) EOS 7D 500mm + 1.4x  ISO 400 (Because of not enough depth of field the left shot was focused on the female  and the right shot on the male.Later the two pictures were stiched in Photoshop)

Stonechats although pretty common in UK were on my wish list since a while, somehow I never managed to capture them either I was on the road somewhere else or the  birds simply didn't show up on my local patch. I was delighted when I spotted this pair. During a longer lasting cold spell I decided to offer some mealworms and crickets and they accepted the handout right away. Stonechats for me always will be connected to a friend of mine who worked for many years with this species but left this world much too early.  I nearly could hear his voice again whilst sitting in my blind and trying to capture some images of his favourite birds .

Dartford Warblers are not really birds of the north as a Mediterranean species they usually stick to the southern part of UK. This poor lonely in Northern Wales very likely won't find a female to pair up with.  As the population of the species was hit quite hard during the last two hard winters  we only can hope that in general  this year's breeding season will be good one for this species... even if this beautiful little chap will not contribute to it.

Chaffinch, Buchfink, Tentilhão-comum, (Fringilla coelebs)

SCOTLAND - CAIRNGORNS NP-- Glenlivet offers fantastic opportunities to observe Black Grouse as they are very sensitive against disturbance the picture doesn't show the actual location  the picture were taken. It shows the habitat the bird needs and could well hide some of them.
